Communications Associate: Content Writer

Position Summary

The Communications Associate: Content Writer is an integral part of the communications team at Equitech Futures. This person is responsible for developing new content for the website (alumni profiles, research updates, program news) through new blog posts, social media content, and marketing copy across various assets. The Communications Associate will lead the execution of a strategy to make our assets across platforms comparable to the best higher education institutions in the world.  

The position offers creative autonomy and growth opportunities in the tech for social impact sector. It will also provide access to our global team and community of alumni, academics, and industry experts. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology, education, and social impact and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. 

About Equitech Futures

Equitech Futures is a digital campus for global innovators who want to use technology to tackle societal challenges. Through the Equitech Scholars Program, Institutes, and Research Labs, we identify and cultivate the next generation of technology leaders who want to tackle pressing societal challenges. Our research network brings together academics, technologists, and practitioners to design and deploy new technology and policy solutions. We take a “problems first approach to research and education: identifying and understanding the problems and then building solutions in consultation with communities and experts.  

Position Responsibilities

The role of the Communications Associate would include the following duties 

  • Conducting research on industry-related topics (in AI, data science, public policy)  in order to develop original content for our website and social media assets. 
  • Liaising with partners, faculty, and alumni to source information.
  • Develop related content for multiple platforms - company website, email marketing, program descriptions, videos, and blogs. 
  • Assisting the Social Media & Marketing Manager in curating the monthly editorial and social media calendar. 
  • Writing social media and marketing copy.
  • Collaborating with the designer to illustrate articles and posts.
  • Assisting in developing content for advertising campaigns.
  • Conducting keyword research and using SEO best practices to increase traffic.
  • Identifying audiences’ needs and recommending new content to address gaps in the company's current content.

What you’ll need to be a great candidate 

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, journalism, or a related field. Working knowledge of emerging technologies and data science tools would be preferred.
  • Portfolio of writing samples or published articles. 
  • Experience working or volunteering in education, social sector, or community-centered organizations.
  • A sincere interest in learning more about cultural differences to empower our diverse student body around the world.
  • Self-direction.
  • Be an excellent collaborator and communicator comfortable working in a global team.
  • A reliable internet connection since our team is fully remote. 
  • Proficiency with Gmail, Google Workspaces (Drive, Calendar, Spaces, Meet, Docs, Sheets), Airtable, and Zoom.
  • Keen interest in leading social media platforms and keeping yourself up-to-date (LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Discord)

Work Location

This contract position is global and fully remote. The pay is competitive with monthly contract work in the successful candidate’s local currency. There may be semi-annual opportunities for this contractor to join in-person events with program alumni and fellow Equitech Futures staff with travel expenses paid by the company.
