Baixiao "Shawn" Chen

Shawn (Bloomington, Indiana, United States) is a recent Data Science graduate from Emory University with minors in Psychology and Sociology, currently conducting AI research at Georgia Tech with Dr. Christopher MacLellan and cross-cultural psychology research at Emory's Center for Contemplative Science. His research focuses on designing AI systems that foster human critical thinking and reflection rather than technological dependency — a direction inspired by his early observations of educational inequality in China's schooling system.

He is applying to PhD programs for Fall 2026, aiming to explore how human-AI interaction can preserve human agency while making systematic thinking both expedient and joyful.
