Gretchen is from Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA and is passionate about expanding access to scientific literacy and environmental education, especially in rural communities. She will receive her B.S. in Conservation Biology summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota in May 2024. Presently, she is a Fulbright semi-finalist and an Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholar. She is currently employed in two roles: serving as head teaching assistant for University-level Zoology courses and working as an independent consultant for a landscape scale situational analysis project in Mexico. She is especially interested in the ways in which humans interact with the natural world, as well as the ways in which we can leverage these relationships to enact positive change in communities. Additionally, she is particularly interested in the ways in which we can employ scientific frameworks to carry out evidence-supported management practices. She has previously carried out extensive science education work in East Africa, Central America, and right at home in Minnesota. She intends to pursue a PhD in Agriculture & Food Security in the future and looks forward to a career in research, teaching, community organizing, non-profit management, or a combination thereof.
