Nour Al-Sheikh grew up in Deir Ezzor, Syria, where technology was never a clean classroom concept. Access had borders. Power had paperwork. Systems were things people either entered or were kept outside of. He came to the U.S. after studying at UWC RBC in Germany, on a merit-based IB scholarship through the Syrian National Committee. That path shaped how he thinks: a tool is never only a tool. It carries assumptions about who belongs, who waits, and who gets a say. At Earlham College, Nour works as a web developer and system administrator. He also serves as co-convener of the Campus Life Advisory Committee and the Presidential Advisory Council. His Senior Capstone examines permissioned blockchain voting infrastructure. In 2021, he co-founded ZeFi, a blockchain education initiative for the MENA region. His questions sit between AI, philosophy, psychology, and global development. What does an intelligent system assume before anyone uses it? Who was missing when it was designed? What would change if the people usually treated as edge cases were placed at the center? For Nour, the hard questions are both technical and moral at the same time. The code matters. So does the world it quietly teaches us to accept.
